Sri Lanka's second international airport at Weerawila

A second international airport at Weerawila in the Hambantota district, will be Sri Lanka's first airport with the capability of landing the latest A380 aircraft.

"The construction of the second international airport at Weerawila would give more confidence to international travelers visiting Sri Lanka" said the Chief Executive Officer of the SriLankan Airlines, Mr. Peter Hill.

Under the first phase the Weerawila international airport would be able to accommodate eight aircrafts. The investment for the first phase would be Rs. 1.25 billion. The airport will comprise of a 4000-meter runway, parking space for 14 aircrafts at a time and other modern facilities when completed.

The SriLankan Airline will initiate their operations from Weerawila with the aim of expanding their service along with providing the most comfortable traveling scheme for the passengers as the most recognized Airline in the
South Asia.

CEO, Mr. Hill stated that it is good to have two international airports for a country. He added that he was also happy with Colombo International airport, which has been completely upgraded to international standards.
