Navy destroys LTTE arms vessel  [Wednesday, November 15, 2006 - 9.30 GMT]

PUTTALAM: The Navy destroyed a large trawler carrying massive quantities of arms, ammunition and explosives off the seas off Kalpitiya, West of Kudiramale around 4.30 p.m. yesterday.

The LTTE carders on board began firing at a Navy craft which approached the suspicious trawler, the Navy successfully retaliated sinking the LTTE vessel transporting arms, ammunition and explosives, with eight Tiger terrorists on board.

Security sources said that although the LTTE repeatedly insisted that the movement was not engaged in any procurement of arms and ammunition,
yesterday's incident clearly proved that Tiger terrorists were continuously focused in strengthening their military capability contrary to their claims, thus violating the 2001 ceasefire agreement with the Government.
