Claymore mine exploded in Jaffna town [Thursday, November 16, 2006 - 9.30 GMT]

The LTTE around 12.30 this afternoon exploded a claymore mine opposite "Food City" in the Jaffna town targeting a vehicle transporting troops.

The Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) reports one civilian and one soldier being injured in the incident.

Earlier this morning the LTTE attacked troops on a cordon and search operation with a hand grenade in Nanaddan in the Murunkan area. The MCNS also reports a Police route clearing patrol being targeted by the LTTE, by detonating two claymore mines between the 10th-11th mile posts in the Pompemadu area on the Vavuniya-Mannar road. 
 
No casualties were reported while the Vavuniya Police are conducting investigations.
