US
recognizes Govt.'s responsibility to protect country's sovereignty,
territorial integrity

Quoting
Under Secretary Under Secretary for Political Affairs Nicholas Burns,
Defence spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said the US had
recognized the responsibility of the President Rajapaksa Government to
protect Sri Lanka's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Speaking at a press briefing in Colombo today the Minister quoted Under
Secretary Burns as saying from the point of the view of the US, the LTTE
had a greater responsibility to work towards achieving peace in the
country andthat the US was not neutral but recognized the LTTE as a
terrorist organization.
Under Secretary Burns had said the US has faith in the government and
the President.
Regarding UN envoy Allan Rock's comments recently regarding the support
"by certain elements in the security forces" to the Karuna faction to
recruit children as soldiers and that there was "credible evidence" to
the fact, the Minister said credible evidence had still not been given
to the government, in order to carry out investigations.
President Rajapaksa in response to Rock's allegations said that if there
was credible evidence of such incidents he would have them investigated.
Commenting on the on going investigations into the killing of
parliamentarian Nadarajah Raviraj on the 10th of this month, Minister
Rambukwella said all investigations were being conducted and that a
breakthrough was expected soon.
