Kalmunai ASP's office comes under LTTE attack
[Friday, November 24, 2006 - 9.30 GMT]

The LTTE this morning hurled a hand grenade at the Kalmunai ASP's office, which is in close proximity to Wesley College (10 meters) on the road leading to the Kalmunai Rest House.

The Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) says the choice of location clearly betrays a hidden motive, that of provoking the Police to retaliate, thereby making the school children vulnerable.

The grenade had exploded after hitting against a branch of a tree and without causing any damage to persons or property.

The Centre says Police did not retaliate as school had been in session.

Meanwhile yesterday an Army Foot patrol was fired upon with small arms and grenades by the LTTE in Piramanayankulam. The MCNS says the Army retaliated.
During a search operation conducted around the area of the incident, early this morning by the Army, a T-56 rifle and five bodies of LTTE cadres were found.

No casualties to troops have been reported.
