LTTE leader shows "astounding duplicity" says Rambukwella
[Tuesday,
November 28, 2006 - 12.00 GMT]
Speaking at the weekly press briefing in Colombo today, the Defence
spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella referred to LTTE leader
Prabhakaran's Heroes Day speech delivered yesterday. He said the LTTE
had described the CFA as "defunct" and said the Government would have to
ask the SLMM and Norwegian facilitators what their role was going to be.
The Minister observed that the LTTE leader showed "astounding duplicity"
during the course of his speech. "From Thimpu to Geneva he has
absolutely no right to talk about peace", said the Minister referring to
the LTTE leader.
Talking on the current situation the Minister said it was obvious the
LTTE wanted to keep innocent civilians forcibly, to use them as human
shields, as they rejected the Government's call through the SLMM to
create a safe haven, where demarked areas would not be attacked under
any circumstances, for IDPs.
The Minister further said civilians had been told by the LTTE not
purchase goods from welfare shops run by the Forces. He said even today
Muhamalai FDLs had come under LTTE mortar and artillery attack.
Eighty vehicles have left for Vakarai today to transport essential items
said Military spokesman Brig. Prasad Samarasinghe. He said however,
Security Forces had received information regarding four 1000 kg bombs
being planted near the Panichchankerni Bridge to hinder the transport of
these goods. He said the information had been confirmed by a former LTTE
cadre that had
surrendered to the forces recently.
