President orders special meeting on problems of Colombo's Self-Employed

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has directed that a special discussion be held between the Colombo City Self-Employees' Association and security officials, to discuss their problems in the context of the present security situation. 

This followed a meeting between the members of Colombo City Self-Employees' Association and President Mahinda Rajapaksa last Saturday (09) at Temple Trees, to discuss the day today problems in the business of the Self Employed in Colombo, and to find solutions to them. 

Association's President, Mahinda Kahandagama briefed President Rajapaksa about their grievances in the backdrop of the present security arrangements; particularly the difficulties faced by pavement hawkers, three-wheel drivers and private lorry drivers, were discussed and speedy solutions sought for them. 

A request was made to the President for the issuance of a government recognized identity card, the provision of business premises and for the introduction of an easily available loan facility to the Self-Employed in
Colombo. 

President Mahinda Rajapaksa directed relevant officials to arrange a special discussion between the Association and security officials, to this discuss these issues. 

Minister AHM Fowzie, Colombo Municipality Party Leader Vasudeva Nanayakkara, the Association's Treasurer S. Selliah and the Borella Organizer K G Bandulasena also participated at the discussion.
