[Wednesday, December 13, 2006 - 7.00 GMT]

The representatives of the Judicial Service Officers’ Association and the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court Lawyers Association who met with President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday (12) expressed the approval of their associations of the President’s decision to reactivate provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act and the regulations to curb the escalation of terrorism.

They said their Associations were happy to note the measures adopted by the President without being swayed by pressure groups. They were of the view that President Mahinda Rajapaksa is the only one who can resolve the ethnic problem without differences of race, religion or party with justice to all.

The President explaining the reasons for reactivation of the PTA emphasized that it will not affect democratic political movements, trade unions and student union activities in universities, and that he will not leave room for the violation of human rights of any citizen.
