The Government has decided to grant five million rupees to the family of recently assassinated Jaffna district TNA parliamentarian Nadaraja Raviraj, who was killed by unknown gunman last month near his residence in Narahenpita.

The Cabinet approval has been granted to pay this amount to late MP's wife Mrs. Susikala Raviraj on humanitarian grounds said Cabinet spokesman Minister Anura Priyadarshana  Yapa at today's Cabinet briefing  for the Media. The proposal to make this payment was made to the Cabinet by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

TNA parliamentarian Mr. Raviraj, who was assassinated on November 10th, was well-known among Tamil and Sinhala people for his ability to convey the views of the Tamils to the Sinhalese.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa in his condolence message following the assassination of Mr. Raviraj said he was an outspoken Member of Parliament who believed that every person in this country should have the right to speak out and express one's ideas freely, with no restrictions; in keeping with the ideals of a democratic society. He was fully committed to uphold this principle of democratic freedom in governance.
