[Tuesday, December 19, 2006 - 8.30 GMT]

Armed LTTE terrorists last night (Dec.18) forcibly took away 24 students attending a tuition class at Vinayagapuram in the Eastern Ampara District, for arms training. The students are residents of the Vinayagapuram and Thirukkovil areas.

The students, 21 girls and 3 boys are reported to have been taken to the LTTE's camp at Kanchikudiyaru. Their parents were preparing to go to this camp to obtain their release, said the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS).
These students were attending a tuition class in preparation for the GCE O/L examination that is now being held. The armed LTTE terrorists had entered
the tuition class around 9.45 pm last night, threatened the two teachers and students at the class before forcibly taking away the students for combat training.

It is also reported that the LTTE has announced it would take away nearly 300 students now sitting the GCE O/L examination in the Kalawanchikudy and Kaludavil areas to join its armed ranks. This had been said by armed LTTE terrorists who came to schools in these areas, said the MCNS.
