"Singapore Village" to house tsunami victims of Galle

President Mahinda Rajapaksa today handed over houses to 100 families from the Galle District who lost their houses due to tsunami of December 26, 2004.

 

Work on this housing complex built in the Habaraduwa - Imaduwa area was undertaken by the Singapore Sinhalese Society, formed by the Sri Lankans resident in Singapore, and was funded by the Singapore Red Cross Society. It has been named 'Singapore Village'. The Singapore Red Cross Society has spent  S$1.2 million to build these houses and for infrastructure development of the area.

The Ambassador for Singapore in Sri Lanka Mr. Than Ka He and the President of the Singapore Sinhalese Society Thusan Dharmapala participated in today's handing over ceremony at Temple Trees.
