Scotland Police arrives to investigate Raviraj assassination
[Friday, January 05, 2007 - 9.30 GMT]

A team of Scotland Yard Police arrived in the Island yesterday to investigate into the assassination of Nadarajah Raviraj, former MP of the TNA.

This team which consists of a Chief Inspector of the British Police, two Senior Police Officers and two Forensic experts will investigate into Raviraj assassination jointly with Sri Lanka Police.

In compliance with a request made by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to Scotland Yard Police through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs immediately after the
assassination of parliamentarian Nadarajah Raviraj the Sri Lankan High Commission office in London has taken steps to bring this team of experts to Sri Lanka.

Mr. Raviraj was assassinated while driving away from his house at Narahenpita on official matter. He was respected and loved by the Sinhalese and Tamil people alike because he presented the views of the Tamil to the Sinhalese.

He was the only Tamil National Alliance MP loyal to LTTE who openly criticized the LTTE leadership living in luxury when the people of the North and their children continued to suffer from various problems.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa after parliamentarian Raviraj's death identified him as the only MP among the TNA parliamentarians who talked directly appreciating the value of pluralism and democracy and opposed anything that deserved opposition without fear.
