Transformers of an electricity sub-station were destroyed in an explosion suspected to have been caused by LTTE cadres, early today.

The attack on the electricity sub-station in the Elakanda area of Wattala, north of Colombo, took place in the early hours today (Monday, January 8).

The Media Centre of National Security said the attack on the main transformer in the sub-station had damaged two other transformers located there, leading to a breakdown of power supply in then area. The sound of the explosion had damaged widows of nearby houses.
