EPDP condemns provocative violence by LTTE - Minister Devananda
[Tuesday, January 09, 2007 - 9.30 GMT]

Act wisely and peacefully, without falling victim to the scheming of the murderous LTTE that is targeting the innocent civilians of the South with bomb attacks, seeking to provoke them and cause widespread ethnic clashes in the country, and by this means mislead the international community to ensure the LTTE's own survival.

So says Mr. Douglas Devananda, leader of the Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) and Minister of Social Services and Social Welfare in a statement condemning the two bomb attacks on buses by the LTTE, targeting civilians at Nittambuwa and Godagama.

Mr. Devananda further states that the people of Jaffna have been rendered helpless and destitute following the Eelam War Four launched by the LTTE last August. He points out that the people of Jaffna have no need for a
division of the country, which is only wanted by the LTTE. Therefore, it is necessary to liberate these people from the clutches of the LTTE, and by providing a political solution to the problems of the Tamils the LTTE should be completely swept away.

Mr. Devananda has expressed his own condolences, as well as of the EPDP and the Tamil speaking people at large to the members of the families, relations and friends of the innocent civilians who were savagely killed in the two bomb attacks on buses at Nittambuwa and Godagama, and has wishes a speedy recovery to all those injured in these attacks.

The statement adds that the EPDP and all Tamil people who value democracy express their heartfelt sorrow at this shameful attack.
