Dr. Palitha Kohona
to ensure professional foreign service

Dr.
T. B. Palitha Kohona, who assumed duties yesterday (17/01) as Secretary,
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said he would ensure the Foreign Service
will continue to be a professional service which gives pride to its
members and sets the standard to the rest of public service.
He said special emphasis would be given to the promotion of economic
activities and investment in Sri Lanka, and promotion of the
Government's efforts on achieving sustainable peace in the country.
Addressing the gathering when he assumed duties, Dr. Kohona expressed
his gratitude to H.E. the President for the confidence placed on him by
appointing him as the Secretary Foreign Affairs. He said he would ensure
that the Foreign Service will continue to be a professional service
which gives pride to its members and sets the standard to the rest of
public service.
Expressing his future plans, Dr. Kohona said, he would implement a
system for continuous monitoring of performance both in the Ministry and
at posts overseas. Special emphasis would be given to the promotion of
economic activities and investment; to promote GOSL effort on achieving
sustainable peace in the country, and continue efficiency in the areas
of consular and
administrative work, as well as strengthening Sri Lanka's multilateral
and bilateral relations.
