LTTE attack on RDA employees -one killed

[Tuesday, January 23, 2007 - 11.10 GMT]

LTTE terrorists at Kalaimagal in Vavuniya have fired at a group of civilian employees of the Road Development Authority at about 8 am today, killing one person and injuring four others.

The terrorists had ordered these employees traveling for road maintenance work by lorry to alight from the vehicle and shot at them after taking them away from the road.

The Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) states that those killed and injured in this shooting in an un-cleared area were Sinhalese people, while four Muslims also on the spot at the time of the incident who escaped, had later come to the Vavuniya police seeking protection. They had described how the group was taken away from the road and asked to line up. They had fled fearing being killed by the LTTE terrorists.
