LTTE displays its paternal role in international terrorism
[Wednesday, February 28, 2007 - 8.30 GMT]

The LTTE by attacking diplomats has shown that it does not care for diplomatic privileges and has actually displayed its paternal role in international terrorism, said Defence Spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella addressing the media this morning in Colombo.

The Minister dismissed as baseless the LTTE announcement that the attack was a mistake. “It is a pre-meditated attack based on their intelligence reports of the visit of the diplomats,” he said. Nobody would be duped by their apologies, as it has been the practice of the LTTE to express regret or ignorance over attacks that have placed them in embarrassing situations, the Minister added.

This attack on a mission whose objective was to oversee rehabilitation and the provision of humanitarian services to the displaced persons in the east gives lie to their claim of being liberators of the Tamil people, the Minister commented. It also justifies the humanitarian mission carried out by the security forces to liberate the east and shows that the government has been successful in differentiating between the people and the terrorists, he added.
