[Friday, February 23, 2007 - 8.30 GMT]

Those who respect human rights should be humanists first, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa addressing a ceremony held yesterday (21) at Temple Trees to mark the Centenary of the World Scout Movement. “Some who claim to be human rights activists help only those who profess their ideology”, added the President.

The Scout movement does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion or class and treats all alike and helps all in times of need, the President further said.

The President was decorated as the Chief Sri Lankan Scout and Patron of the Scout movement in Sri Lanka.
