Public protest ensures return of abducted child [Tuesday, March 06, 2007 - 8.00 GMT]

Strong protest by parents and public of Kokuvil against the LTTE has ensured the safe return of a 16-year old abducted child named Sritharan to his parents.

According to the Army Media Centre, Sritharan was abducted on January 21, 2007 while traveling with a friend in a bicycle distributing leaflets of a private insurance firm in the Makadu area.

As a result of the public outcry and the demand of the parents, the LTTE has handed over the child to the UNICEF office in Mavattaselai on March 3. After an examination by the Judicial Medical Officer, the child was handed over to his parents on the orders of the Batticaloa Magistrate.
