FM calls for more international assistance

Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama met Congressional Representatives focused on South Asia at Capitol Hill, Washington D.C. and requested more assistance in halting LTTE funding through its front organizations such as the TRO in the international arena.

 

Among the Representatives the Minister met were the Co-Chairs of the Sri Lanka Congressional Caucus, Congressman Frank Pallone and Congressman Jerry Weller, Chairman of the Sub-Commit Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.

 

The Minister told the Congressmen that a political solution to the conflict is being worked out by the All Party Representative Committee (APRC) and the final outcome will be ready next month.

 

He also thanked the United States and the international community for their continued support to Sri Lanka in its fight against terrorism to uphold the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.

Sri Lanka Ambassador in the US, Bernard Goonetilleke and Director General Public Communications of the Foreign Ministry, Ravinatha Aryasinha were also present.
