Nothing can be gained by war – Douglas Devananda
[Monday, March 19, 2007 - 9.00 GMT]

The Tamil people desire peace but the LTTE is conducting a war in their name because it is afraid that they will be rejected both politically and physically by the masses in a peaceful environment, says Social Services Minister Douglas Devananda. “Nothing can be gained by war,” he added.

He said that his party appeals to all to give up terrorist and opportunist politics and join a real search for peace. The EPDP stands for a united Sri Lanka where the Tamils could live in peace and harmony with other communities, the Minister emphasized.

“We have joined the government mainly to express the desire of the Tamil people for peace”, the Minister concluded.
