President for strengthening Parliament

The time is opportune for strengthening Parliament, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa addressing a ceremony to unveil a portrait of Sri Lanka’s First Executive President J R Jayawardene held at the Parliamentary complex, Sri Jayawardhanapura Kotte yesterday (21).
  
“The Executive Presidency introduced by President Jayawardene should be changed to suit the times. I intend to bring in changes to make Parliament more productive and meaningful,” President Rajapaksa added.
  
Parliament Speaker W J M Loku Bandara MP, Leader of the Opposition Ranil Wickremesinghe MP, several Ministers and MPs were among the distinguished invitees at the Ceremony.
