The Cabinet has approved a proposal by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, as Minister of Defence, Public Security, Law and Order for the construction of
50,000 housing for members of the security forces engaged in the war against terror and separatism, on a priority basis.

Construction and sale of houses for the members of the security forces who are battling LTTE terror has been identified by the government as a scheme to be completed on a priority basis. As the initial step of this project, a township which consists of 1620 houses is being constructed at Ipalogama, Anuradhapura. In addition to the above construction work some other
organizations have submitted project proposals for the construction of these houses.

Subsequent to the handing over of the township completed with houses and other facilities it is proposed that the Government will take action to repay the cost concerned to the relevant institutions by recovering such cost from the house holders with an interest on concessionary rates, within a period of twenty years commencing after a grace period of five years.
