Matara- Kataragama Railway - more proposals

The Government is speeding up work on construction of the Matara-Kataragama Railway, bringing rail transport to a large area in the South that is so far not connected to the island's railway network.

In a move to both expedite this work and obtain the best expertise for its planning and construction, the Cabinet has approved to a proposal to allow additional parties to submit proposals for Stage 1 of the new railway line.  

Accordingly, the following foreign parties from the USA, Japan, Korea, India and Pakistan will also be included in the short list to call for proposals for the Stage 1 of this railway extension project: 

a.        Hamilton Construction in Alaska, USA.
b.        Fuji Ryustu Corporation in Japan.
c.        Daewoo Engineering Company in Korea.
d.        Han matrix Co. Ltd in Korea.
e.        Pakistan Railway Advisory and Consultancy  Services Ltd.
f.        Greatwall Consultancy, India.

The proposal to bring in the additional parties was made by the Hon. Dullas Alahapperuma, Minister of Transport.
