Foreign Affairs Minister Rohitha Bogollagama met Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee in New Delhi on April 01 and discussed matters of mutual interest including the possibility of conducting coordinated patrolling of the sea by the two countries in order to ensure the security of fishermen and prevent illegal trafficking in weapons and explosives by the LTTE. The Foreign Affairs Minister also briefed his Indian counterpart on the security situation in the island and the need to strengthen the defence capabilities of the Sri Lankan Armed Forces, especially in view of the LTTE”S acquisition of air capability, which poses a threat to all countries of the region. The Foreign Affairs Minister was in New Delhi to attend the 14th SAARC Summit.
