Sri Lanka –Jordan sign trade, cultural cooperation and investment agreements

President Mahinda Rajapaksa who visited Jordan to attend the G 11 Summit and the World Economic Summit for the Middle East held cordial discussions with King Abdullah Al Hussein of Jordan last Friday (18).
  

During the President’s visit Sri Lanka and Jordan signed three major agreements pertaining to trade, investment and cultural cooperation. Signing of the agreements took place at the King Abdullah Memorial Hall in Amman.
  

According to this new Sri Lanka-Jordan Trade Agreement the Sri Lankan export market to Jordan will be expanded to include among others, vegetables, fresh fruit, ornamental fish, cut flowers, sea food and rural handicrafts. Previously eighty five percent of Sri Lankan exports to Jordan were confined to tea and garments
  

The Cultural Co-operation Agreement between the two countries would enable the holding of joint workshops for artistes of the two countries.
  

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Chairmen of the Chambers of Commerce of the two countries will enable Sri Lankan investors to freely invest in Jordan and open up more business opportunities for them in Jordan.


Jordanian investors are invited to mainly focus on garments, oil storage facilities, housing construction and road development.
