Fishermen tell their tale LTTE stands exposed

Eleven out of the twelve Indian fishermen who were abducted by the LTTE have now returned home. Upon interrogation by the Tamil Nadu Police they have confirmed that they were abducted by the LTTE.  The other fisherman is believed to be in the custody of the Maldivian authorities after jumping off the suspected LTTE arms vessel that was sunk off the Maldivian coast.

It was Tamil Nadu’s Police Commissioner, D. Mukherjee, who on April 27 first announced 12 Indian fishermen have been kidnapped by the LTTE.

This has given lie to LTTE accusations that the Sri Lankan Navy was responsible for attacks on Indian fishermen who stray into Sri Lankan territorial waters.

The Sri Lanka government’s position that the LTTE is trying to spoil the good relations between Sri Lanka and India by these wild allegations has also been now vindicated.

As a recent statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs clarified “there is absolutely no evidence to link the Sri Lanka Navy with attacks on Indian fishermen. Moreover, the policy followed by the Government of Sri Lanka and her Security Forces towards fishermen from India with which Sri Lanka has longstanding and close ties, is designed to preclude any such happening.”
