Akashi meets President

Japan’s Special Peace Envoy Yashisu Akashi called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday (6) evening at Temple Trees, Colombo.
  
They discussed the present political situation including the current situation of the peace process. The President briefed the envoy on the measures taken by the Government to find a consensus on a negotiated settlement to the Sri Lankan conflict and the humanitarian measures taken to resettle in their original villages those displaced due to the conflict.  

Akashi is due to visit Vaharai in the Eastern Province today to acquaint himself of the progress of the resettlement programme.
  
Foreign Affairs Deputy Minister Hussein Baila, Foreign secretary Palitha Kohona and Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga were also present at the discussion.
