City lodge occupants probed
[Thursday, June 07, 2007 - 10.00 GMT]

The police in Colombo today began investigations, without any communal consideration, of anyone occupying lodgings or who have taken temporary
residence in the Colombo area and is unable to provide valid reasons for their stay.

The Ministry of Defence states there have been instances where some persons have stayed in lodges the Colombo area for "over six months on the pretext
that someone has to obtain his/her identity card or passport" and without progress in this regard.

Temporary occupants, who cannot provide valid reasons for their stay in the Colombo area, will be sent back to their homes under arrangements by the
Police, the Ministry states.

The present action by the Police is required considering security threats such as the recent LTTE bomb explosions resulting in the loss of several innocent lives, injury and damage to property. Investigations have also
confirmed that those responsible for these brutal killings have hatched their plans in these 'lodgings".

A total of 376 persons consisting of 291 males and 85 females have left for their homes in Vavuniya, Batticaloa, Jaffna and Trincomalee in 07 CTB buses,
the statement said.
