President appeals to Sri Lankan expatriates

[Saturday, June 16, 2007 - 7.00 GMT]

Addressing a gathering of Sri Lankan expatriate community in Geneva on June 15 President Mahinda Rajapaksa appealed to them to combat LTTE disinformation in the West.

The LTTE is forcibly enlisting the expatriate Sri Lankan Tamils for their disinformation campaign and hence there is a need to combat it, explained the President. “It is the duty of our expatriates to counter this disinformation and build a healthy public opinion in the West for Sri Lanka,” he said.

The President replied to several questions raised about the allegations of human rights violations, abductions and disappearances and detailed the steps taken by the Government to prevent such violations taking place.
