Government shows clear majority in House

The Government of President Mahinda Rajapaksa demonstrated its majority in parliament today when the House approved seven supplementary estimates for
government expenditure.

The Supplementary Estimates for Rs. 657,561,000 presented by Government to meet the cost of seven ministries were passed by parliament with a majority
of 20.

At the division by name in parliament 107 members voted for the estimates while 87 members opposed.

The estimates were for expenditure of the ministries Supplementary Plantation Crops Development, National Heritage, Export Development and International Trade, Public Estate Management and Development, Construction and Engineering Services, Water Supply & Drainage, and Special Projects.

These ministries were set up when the number of ministries was increased in the last Cabinet re-shuffle by President Rajapaksa.
