Government
donates Rs. 500,000 to family of slain priest
[Thursday, June
21, 2007 -
9.30 GMT]
Government has
decided donate Rs. 500,000 to the family of Selliah Parameshwara
Kurukkal, the slain Hindu priest of Pudupillaiar Kovil, Sandiveli.
This money will be given on sympathetic grounds by the Ministry of
Disaster Relief Services in view of the dire economic status of the
family.
Parameshwara Kurukkal garlanded President Mahinda Rajapaksa according to
the Hindu tradition when he visited Vakarai following its liberation by
the Armed Forces.
A few days later on February 7, 2007 Kurukkal was assassinated by
suspected LTTE terrorists.
