British police arrest top LTTE activist

President of the British Tamil Association  (BTA) C Shanthan was arrested by British anti-terrorism police on June 21 on suspicion of being the leading activist of the LTTE, which is a proscribed organization in the United Kingdom.  
  
Goldan Lambert, another member of the BTA was also arrested together with Shanthan.

According to a police spokesman Shanthan is suspected to be involved in extortions, abduction, illegal detention and killing of persons and money laundering on behalf of the LTTE.
  
Police are said to be investigating several other Tamils and Tamil businesses closely associated with Shanthan.
