Navy uncover weapons and explosives- Mannar

SL Navy troops on a search operation uncovered a stock of LTTE weapons and explosives in the general areas Emblinagar and Karsal in Mannar last evening
(Monday, July 02).

The following weapons were found while searching a newly built house long the Mannar Hospital Road, at Emblinagar. T-56 assault rifle - 01, T-56 magazine - 01, 40mm grenade launcher and two grenades, Gelignite - 01Kg, Hand grenade- 01.

Troops also found 10 boxes of C-4 high explosives inside a 2000 lt water tank hidden in shrub land at Karsal general area. The explosives were stuffed in the tank along with metal pellets.

According to defence officials, the LTTE are adopting new and ingenious methods to cause mayhem in populated areas in view of its imminent defeat at Thoppigala.

The Ministry of Defence said search operations were extended, to avert possible LTTE attempts to disturb the prevailing normalcy in the area.
