A land area of 1600 acres will be utilized to establish an ‘Economic Zone’ in the district of Trincomalee for rapid industrialization.
  
The Board of Investment (BOI) has introduced special packages with extra benefits for the investors who are willing to launch their projects in the Eastern Province. In addition there are many concessions such as a tax free period of 10 years for Rs.15 to Rs.30 million investments.
  
According to BOI, they have received orders for ready-made garments from countries such as Italy, USA and UK. Contracts with a few foreign companies are due to be signed this week. Steps have been already taken to start the construction work of the ‘Economic Zone’ by the end of October this year.
  
The Deputy Director General, BOI said the Sri Lankan investment Authority has allocated Rs 100 million to invest in this project as the first step.
