Meetings with Burns and Solheim

Tuesday (25) evening President Mahinda Rajapaksa had a cordial meeting with Nicholas Burns, Under Secretary for Political Affairs, US State Department. The president told Mr. Burns that the Government’s objective is to seek a settlement of the conflict in Sri Lanka through negotiations with the LTTE despite ongoing humanitarian operations in certain areas. Deputy Secretary Burns appreciated the position of the Sri Lankan Government and expressed its commitment to assist Sri Lanka in its search for a solution to the conflict.

 
 

President Mahinda Rajapaksa met Norway ‘s International Development Affairs Minister Eric Solheim at the sidelines of the 62nd Sessions of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). They discussed the present situation in Sri Lanka including the efforts to seek a negotiated solution to the conflict through the All Party Representative Committee (APRC)
