Meetings with world leaders

President Mahinda Rajapaksa met President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran on the sidelines of the UNGA sessions in New York last Tuesday (25). The two leaders discussed the international situation and issues of common interest to both countries. The Iranian President told President Rajapaksa that Iran intends to establish an oil refinery in Sri Lanka in order to give some relief to the people affected by high price of oil in the world market. 
 

 
President Mahinda Rajapaksa and President Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine met last Tuesday (25) on the sidelines of the UNGA in New York. The Palestinian President said that he was glad to meet President Rajapaksa who held the post of President of the Sri Lanka – Palestine Friendship Society for 24 years. The two leaders exchanged opinion on ways and means of developing bilateral relations further.
