[Friday, October 05, 2007 - 9.30 GMT]

The Government appreciates the position taken by the Government of Iceland in apologizing for the unauthorized visit of Iceland's Minister Counselor to Killinochchi, it is, however, not satisfied with the conduct of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) that provided transport for his visit, said Defence Spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella at a media briefing this morning (5) held in Colombo.

The Minister indicated that the Government is viewing this conduct of the SLMM as a violation of the powers entrusted to it and would take appropriate measures as there had been similar instances of misconduct in the past too.
