Sri Lanka Navy confronted a cluster of LTTE boats heading towards Pesalai North at about 4.30 a.m. today (18), Naval Spokesperson Commander D.K.P Dassanayake said.

Suspicious LTTE boats have fired at patrol vessels drawing counter fire from Naval units. LTTE boats were forced to flee leaving a boat with four slain bodies and three survivors, said naval sources. Later the boat was apprehended by navy and the three survivors handed over to Mannar Police for further investigations.

Extensive search operations were under-way to secure the area for safe fishing during the latter hours, Naval sources said.
