Defence Spokesman
[Friday, October 26, 2007 - 9.00 GMT]

The Government held a press briefing on October 22 shortly after the LTTE attack on the Anuradhapura air base and gave a true picture of the situation, Government Defence Spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told journalists today (16).

Refuting claims by certain media houses that the Government gave wrong information, the Minister said the Prime Minister gave a full report of the incident to Parliament the following day.

The Government accepts that certain security lapses have taken places and has started investigations regarding the same, the Minister added.

Answering questions from the media Minister Rambukwella said that the air defence system is already active at all strategic locations and the entire island would be covered within the course of a few years.
