The duty of the media is to responsibly present correct and accurate information to the people and irresponsible news reporting is a threat to national security, said Government media spokesman Media and Information Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, addressing a news conference held at the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS), Colombo this morning(26).

He also said that the Government was compelled to temporarily withdraw the broadcasting license issued to ABC media network due to its false reporting of an LTTE attack at Ranminitenna, Tisssamaharama that caused panic among the public. The Minister said that an investigation is being conducted at present by the Media Ministry Secretary regarding this news broadcast. Government will inform the public about future actions it would take with regard to this incident once the investigation is over, the Minister added.
