The government is taking an unprecedented effort to strengthen the national market. It is not ready to feed the people by mortgaging the country, said President Mahinda Rajapaksa participating as the Chief Guest at the Ceremony organised by the Maubima Lanka Foundation at the BMICH, Colombo to award Surya Singha Medals to encourage indigenous entrepreneurs.

Thirty four entrepreneurs received the awards from the President.

Addressing the gathering the President said we could make the rising cost of imported goods a blessing by developing indigenous products. He called upon the people to consume rice at all meals avoiding costly bread and wheat flour products.

He appreciated the role played by the Maubima Lanka Foundation for its role in popularising indigenous products.
