Hambantota Harbour: Govt signs financial agreement

The Government and the Exim Bank of China signed the financial agreement for the construction of the Hambantota Harbour at Temple Trees, Colombo yesterday (30) in the presence of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
  
Chairman of the Exim Bank Mr. Li Ruogu and Secretary, Ministry of Finance Dr. P.B. Jayasundera signed the agreement.
  
The Exim Bank will provide a loan of Rs. 3070 million. It has to be paid back in 5 years with 0.9% interest after a 4-year grace period.
  
The harbour, expected to be constructed in three stages, will cover an area of 2000 square hectares.
  
President Mahinda Rajapaksa is now visiting the proposed harbour area with Mr. Li Ruogu.
