Britain has granted humanitarian assistance worth £1 million to Sri Lanka during the current fiscal year, Parliamentary Under-Secretary, Department for International Development Shahid Malik told British Parliament on October 30, answering a question raised by an MP.

Of this amount  £800,000 has been given to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and £200,000 through the UN inter agency Common Humanitarian Action Plan (CHAP). Much of this funding is being spent on resettlement and reconstruction programmes in the newly liberated Eastern Province.
