[Monday, November 26, 2007 - 4.30 GMT] President Mahinda Rajapaksa left for
Iran yesterday (25) from Kampala, Uganda where he participated in the
Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. He will be in Iran for three
days as the official guest of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. President Rajapaksa is expected to
seek Iranian assistance for several development projects including the
expansion of the oil refinery and the Uma Oya project. The possibility
of obtaining petroleum from Iran at concessionary rates will also be
explored.
