President visits Iran

President Mahinda Rajapaksa left for Iran yesterday (25) from Kampala, Uganda where he participated in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. He will be in Iran for three days as the official guest of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
  
During his visit the two leaders will discuss the possibilities of enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries and will also review international developments.

President Rajapaksa is expected to seek Iranian assistance for several development projects including the expansion of the oil refinery and the Uma Oya project. The possibility of obtaining petroleum from Iran at concessionary rates will also be explored.
  
President Rajapaksa is also scheduled to meet Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei during the visit.
