Sri Lanka protests over Labour MPS presence at pro-LTTE rally
[Monday, December 10, 2007 - 9.20 GMT]

The Sri Lankan High Commission in London has protested strongly against the presence of Labour MPs Keith Vaz and Virendra Sharma at a pro-LTTE rally held in London, calling it as an act “partisan to a terrorist group” banned in the UK.

Vaz currently chairs the influential parliamentary Home Affairs Select Committee, which has oversight of Britain's counter-terrorism laws.

Prabhakaran's so-called 'Heroes Day' address was broadcast live on large screens across the southeast London venue, with Vaz, Sharma and another Labour MP Joan Ryan in the audience.
