Mahinda Rajapaksa today (17) opened the newly re-constructed Galle
International Cricket stadium that was destroyed in the tsunami of
December 26, 2004.
The cost of the reconstruction project was Rs. 500 million. Addressing
the participants of the opening ceremony the President stated that it is
planned to improve facilities for the game of cricket throughout the
island.
Speaking on the responsibilities of the Government, he stated that the
final goal is to eradicate terrorism and build an independent sovereign
state where all could live in peace.
