Government initiates unprecedented development program

The Government has initiated during the last two years a massive development program unprecedented in the past 40 years, said Finance Ministry Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundera addressing a meeting of Heads of Public Corporations and statutory bodies, last Thursday (20) at Presidential Secretariat, Colombo.

Among these projects are the Norochcholai Power Project, the Hambantota Port Project, the Upper Kotmale Power Project, the Moragahakanda Reservoir
Project and several expressway projects. We will also begin the Uma Oya Project soon.

The Ministry Secretary also said that the Government successfully negotiated a US $ 500 million bond issue in the international market. He also referred to the 7 percent growth of the economy during the third quarter of 2007.
