One dead, over 6,000 families displaced by floods

One death has been reported while 6, 803 families have been displaced in Ampara, Badulla, Batticaloa, Jaffna, Polonnaruwa and Ratnapura districts due to torrential rain and landslides.
 

According to reports of National Disaster Relief Services Center of the Ministry of Resettlement and Disaster Relief Services, 29 houses were completely damaged and 504 houses partially destroyed. Several highways have become impassable as a result of flood waters.

More than 559 families were housed in internally displaced camps.


National Disaster Relief Services Centre has released funds to meet emergency requirements of the people affected. The centre is collecting information about the damaged houses to provide relief assistance, reconstructing those houses.
