Govt not deviated from a negotiated settlement

Government has no way deviated from arriving at a negotiated political solution with the consultation of all concerned parties and is always committed to a lasting solution to the ethnic crisis in the country Minister of Mass Media and Information Anura Priydarshana Yapa said at the weekly press briefing today (January 03) in Colombo.  

Minister Yapa said that the Government’s decision to withdraw from CFA was followed a proposal made by Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickramanayake who pointed out that the CFA had been violated by the LTTE on number of occasions targeting innocent civilians.

The Prime Minister has been authorized to follow up on this decision in accordance with the provisions with the CFA Minister added.  

Government will work with the APRC proposals which are to be finalized soon, he further said.
